They were compiled and processed using the more limited computing and data storage capabilities that were available at that time. Since then, significant improvements have been made to computers and software that massive database operations, such as line leveling and gridding can now be efficiently handled with desktop systems. Thus the MGS decided to upgrade the existing aeromagnetic database using these newer capabilities. This is the upgraded version of the dataset.
